SWARMS

If you see a swarm of honeybees, call John right away! 301-639-9726. He will safely gather the swarm, move it to a new home, and leave you with a jar of honey. He will also send you a photograph of your bees in their new hive!!

But don’t delay. Most people see swarms as they have clustered in their temporary location before moving into the permanent location they have scouted. In fact, they often leave the same day they are spotted.

Peaceful beekeeping is all about connecting with nature, supporting agriculture, and embracing the life of bees.

Honey bees naturally swarm in the Spring as they look to reproduce by splitting the colony. Half the colony departs with the existing queen to find a new home. Swarms may be found anywhere - in trees, along side barns or other buildings, or even under the eave of a porch. John will remove swarms from private property and other locations upon request if the bees are accessable. John gathers the swarm, leaves you with a jar of honey, and the bees enjoy a comfortable new home.

Rather than wait for swarms to be discovered, John also installs swarm catch boxes at locations throughout Frederick County. John is always looking for new locations to install swarm catch boxes. “If you have a tree, you could attract a bee.” Would you like to host a box - April - June?
